Vic: Victoria-NSW border officially declared today

The land border between Victoria and New South Wales will be officially declared at
a ceremony today .. 130 years after it was first surveyed.

The 180 km stretch of border from the source of the Murray River to Cape Howe was surveyed
from 1870 to 1871 .. but the border between the two then colonies was never formally proclaimed.

And in late 2004 .. a team of surveyors trekked to the Murray's source .. in remote
country high in the Great Dividing Range .. to re-locate an original stone survey mark
and prepare for today's proclamation.







The border line is known as the Black-Allan Line .. after the two surveyors who first
marked the border .. Victorian ALEXANDER ALLAN and ALEXANDER BLACK .. of NSW.

The ceremony to be held this morning on the border between the towns of Delegate in
NSW and Delegate River in Victoria .. will be attended by dignitaries including Victorian
Governor JOHN LANDY and NSW Governor MARIE BASHIR.
