Fed: genetics researcher denounced by women s conference

One of Australia's leading genetic researchers has been denounced by women's health
advocates for holding eugenic and dangerous views.

Professor GRANT SUTHERLAND, from the Adelaide Women's and Children's Hospital, said
on the ABC'S 7.30 Report last night, that society would be better off if it could prevent
the birth of handicapped individuals.

But British disability rights activist and academic Dr TOM SHAKESPEARE, who was also
interviewed, said that prenatal testing could lead to genetic cleansing.
